DHA Omega 3 Source of Life

DHA Power is an omega-3 book concept fusing brain science, cognitive health and fitness performance recovery.  DHA omega-3 is the only omega-3 needed for lowering high triglycerides naturally and by lowering triglycerides with DHA that is the most direct way of targeting triglycerides for heart health.  DHA is what lowers high triglycerides.  Postprandial triglycerides are massively improved with DHA compared to EPA.  EPA gets converted to DHA to get used by the cells, tissues and organs.  DHA is the omega-3 found in the body more than any other omega-3.  Raising DHA levels is the best way to raise EPA levels.  EPA does not get used directly because it is highly regulated by the system as an anti-inflammatory.  The ratio of DHA : EPA : ALA in the body is 30 :1 : 1.

Wave of Omega Truth

DHA-rich algae oil is the best one because only omega-3 DHA provides cognitive benefits.  DHA-poor fish oils are supposed to boost our brain power, but do the facts really stack up?

John is nine years old. A year ago, he was falling behind in his schoolwork, particularly reading – which he found a struggle. He had little interest in studying and would crash on the sofa to watch TV when he got home from school. DHA deficiency is likely. Are you taking precautions?

DHA Omega-3, What Doctors Need to Know

Kiran called to tell me a story of his father. With high triglycerides, low HDLs and moderately high LDL levels the Indian Elder’s doctor suggested to Kiran that a Statin was needed. Kiran’s father was diagnosed with high cholesterol, but the drug side effects were unpleasing and he stopped right away. Wisely, Kiran’s father started an omega-3 therapy program instead.  After 10 months the doctor said the Senior’s numbers looked good.

“See I told you the Statin would work.” The doc said.

Kiran corrected the doctor, “No we tried omega-3 instead.”

DHA Omega-3 Needed To Save On Health Care Long-Term

If household spending on food has decreased 50% in 30 years, then that means the choice is towards lower quality, lower cost foods.  Because waistlines have not improved with less spending, we know calories were not trimmed.  What happened? Low cost is not healthier.  Thrift can be a poor supervisor.  That's the thinking that keeps people from taking omega-3s DHA, EPA and vitamins.

In contrast, health care costs have doubled.  Pharmaceuticals cannot treat well the conditions caused by unhealthy foods and metabolic diseases.  On low budgets, families are trying to cut costs at the dinner table perhaps because they still have insurance to pay for health care.  The trends suggest people feel money invested in quality foods and supplements makes less sense than hundreds of dollars per month for insurance.  This should be reconsidered.  For maximum nutritional benefit, start with omega-3 DHA sufficiency and high quality mutivitamins for 3 months.

DHA Omega-3 is Better than Fish Oil

Good Morning!
I have a very quick question for you Dr Doughman.
I met a wonderful couple, last weekend in Raleigh we discussed the Xocai Omega Squares and they had a question I could not answer so I am reaching out to you, our LOCAL OMEGA EXPERT!!!!!!

Our friends currently take fish oil capsules--- She takes 2000 mg/units of fish oil per day, the brand is called "Nordic" and Chuck takes 4000 mg/units of fish oil per day, the brand is "Kirkwood".  They are wondering how the 200 mg of Omega 3 in our Xocai Omega Squares would compare to the fish oil capsules they are taking...i.e. is the Omega DHA more powerful even though the dose is smaller?  Would you recommend taking supplementation of Omega 3 in addition to our chocolate?  He is currently on statins and is hoping to get off of them.  I would love to help them!!!!!

I recommended that they speak with you about your Omega supplement and encouraged them to consider taking that in addition to our chocolate.

I will have her e-mail address sometime today and will forward it to you--- I know she would be delighted to communicate with you directly.

Love Susan

Dr Doughman Says
Good question:

DHA is most important because DHA is 10 x more abundant in our bodies and we easily make EPA from DHA as needed.

2g Fish Oil = 240 mg DHA and 360 mg EPA >> standard daily dose 600 mg total.
4g Fish Oil = 480 mg DHA and 720 mg EPA >> double dose is good at 1200 mg.

I recommend 1200 mg DHA daily for him and 600 mg DHA for her.

They need not change anything right now, but taking the omega squares is adding to the DHA bottom line and I recommend the chocolate and capsules both.

Of course, If they want the best omega-3 in the world they should take Pure One.
Thank you for the question.
Scott

DHA Omega-3 Metabolism Advantage and Brain Health

There is no denying that Docosanoids have played a major role in the development of the mammalian brain, eyes, heart and organs. From the origin of time through today, animal life from the sea has nourished and nurtured land dwellers who depend on and benefit from the sea. Substantial evidence suggests that human access to Docosanoids, particularly DHA, is required for neuron function. Though seafood DHA has provided us competitive advantages as civilizations and people, each hardwired with the help of DHA, into our cultures and into our brain’s physical matter.

All nerve cells need DHA for the most significant structural and functional roles these cells play. Looking at it through a clinical eye, scientist’s can now see models where the brain biology of DHA is making leaps forward as this molecule is destined to become known as the veritable Beluga Whale of Omega-3s, if you will, the heavyweight. Docosanoids are the frontier molecules of brain function.

Nordic, Meso-American, Mediteranean, Asian and European Histories all favor the sea for where to find the origins of life and health. Today, Omega-3 is one of the top 5 supplement products in terms of vitamin sales in the US. Traders of fish oil beware, the green movement and eco-friendly competition have a compelling argument for replacing fish oil. DHA Omega-3 is the only Omega-3 you need to supplement and DHA Omega-3 is produced in mass amounts, perpetually, in a few cultured algae strains.  Still, only a handful of countries around the world have such products. Because modern diets have drifted away from sustainable resources and natural harvesting, in addition to adding refrigerators to our lives and then food storage to the mix, our diet has drifted away from high cost fresh foods to lower quality, lower cost goods. Seafood is one of those high cost goods we are not getting of as societies.
For example, household spending on food has decreased 50% in 30 years, meaning people are choosing lower quality, lower cost foods.  Because waistlines have not improved with less spending, we know calories were not trimmed.  S o what happened? Low cost is not healthier and dietary habits have drifted like wood, pounded by the imbalances of modern living.  With regards to health, thrift can be a poor supervisor.  That's the thinking that keeps people from making good choices and investing in preventative measures.
In contrast, household health care costs have doubled.  Pharmaceuticals cannot treat well the conditions caused by unhealthy foods and obesity, leading to untreatable metabolic diseases.  On low budgets, families are trying to cut costs at the dinner table, still satisfied they have insurance to pay for the health care that does not exist for metabolic conditions.  The trends suggest people feel money invested in quality foods and supplements makes less sense than spending hundreds of dollars per month for Condition Insurance - it’s not Health Insurance anymore.  This whole fortressed health care system is held together by the insurance companies. If doctors had the means of caring for patients and making money without the insurance company incentives exclusively, then what would they do, focus on Health and Wellness programs too.  Some are marketing metabolism care because metabolism matters.
