Source-Omega makes Pure One(TM): Advertisment
by Source-Omega Team: Approved by Scott Doughman, PhD
Source-Omega's Pure One™ was launched Earth Day April 22nd 2008, three years ago using Martek's DHA-S™ oil. Martek's DHA-S™ oil, obtained from a US company acquisition, has always had the potential for some EPA, but Martek has disclaimed the EPA until recently
Pure One™ was the first US made DHA plus EPA algae product to market, based on the published academic work of Scott Doughman et al., 2007, Current Diabetes Reviews. The publication review was written without conflicts of interest as a work considering the DHA and EPA from algae oil as a potential omega-3 solution for Diabetics, without the "fish oil effect" in a Diabetic.
Pure One™ branded algae oil products were the first to develop the vegetarian DHA plus EPA in a carrageenan capsule, a patent pending embodiment. There are no reservations barring DHA only competitor products using algae oil in the US or DHA + EPA products above the reserved range held by Dr .
Source-Omega's Founder, Dr Scott Doughman, PhD saw a gap in the algae oil market and the need back in 2006 as a NIH funded omega-3 researcher, but after the DHA-S™ strain had been acquired by Martek and developed into an Infant Formula Grade product. The DHA-S™ oil has been a natural food oil source of omega-3s for over twenty five years.
V-Pure, an EU brand of algae oil from another strain of algae oil was one of the first in the EU to launch an algae oil product with DHA plus EPA, but the V-Pure brand has recently changed their product formulation to closely resemble the Pure One™ embodiment.
Martek recently announced the creation of a new higher EPA lower DHA algae oil strain for their DHA-O™ product. Both of Martek's oil sources are derived from their Schizochytrium strain platform. Source-Omega developed, protected and commercialized its Pure One™ formulation as having a rich "metabolic ratio" of DHA + EPA from algae oil.
Doughman claimed that listing both EPA and DHA in algae oil informed the customer to consider more than a brand name. Doughman has since standardized a bioactive lipid dosing program for use in complementary medicine and for use in Diabetics.
Pure One™, Source-Omega maintains, has taken a position that the competing V-Pure brand has changed its formulation in a manner that may now too closely resemble the Pure One™ product in the US.
Pure One™ currently also has a barrier to sales in the EU, based on a registration allegedly barring a 300 mg DHA + 10 mg EPA algae oil capsule from being sold for retail under Martek's novel food application.
Source-Omega maintains that the novel food application has a clause for medical use, which bypasses the formulation standard argument forwarded by competitors, as the Pure One™ product intent is not as a food, but as a complementary therapeutic.
This across the pond battle of the pure algae oil brands is also heating up with Ovega-3™ by Amerifit entering the picture. Martek Biosciences Corporation and their Amerifit acquisition are both now under DSM in the EU, with DSM and Amerifit being the 'new kids on the block' with respect to DHA plus EPA algae oil marketing.
Could algae oil DHA plus EPA be the future of omega-3s? Currently algae oil omega-3 sales are small in percentage of market share of the entire omega-3 industry. As a specialized company, Source-Omega's mission has been to provide pure omega-3 innovations, access and solutions to all the world's people, Pure One™.
Pure One™ appears to maintain a best-in-class virgin status in the US and a clear image of the future as the first US made DHA + EPA algae oil omega-3 supplement.
