Q: How is DHA/EPA used by the body?
A: Source-Omega Reviews DHA Retroconversion Metabolic Dosing Using Algae Oil Omega-3s as a Fish Oil Substitute http://www.pr.com/press-release/276064. What all the human omega-3 red blood cell data independently points out is that DHA is always 3 to 8 fold more abundant than EPA in human blood and tissues, even after prolonged intake of high doses of omega-3s predominantly as EPA.
Q: Is your product strictly an omega 3 supplement, or have you done something to it to convert a percentage of the oil to DHA/EPA so the body does not have to?
A: Nothing has been done to alter the beautiful golden oil. The body simply takes any extra EPA in fish oil and processes it mainly to DHA or takes any extra DHA in algae oil and processes it mainly to EPA. At the 3 month time-point, the blood work does not look much different in terms of how the body is made up.
Q: How does the body know what to do?
A: The body has mechanisms and genes to regulate fatty acids with greater sophistication than we knew. Let’s put it another way. If you had a holiday pie cut into 8 pieces, 1 to 2 of those pieces are EPA + ALA and 6-7 of the pieces is DHA. So dosing with DHA from a plant source is actually a scientifically superior strategy.
Q: So what is the difference between taking your product and flax oil? Thank you for your help.
A: The difference between algae oil and flax oil is the opposite side of the same coin. Certainly flax oil is good for getting a low level of omega-3s, but to get clinical levels of omega-3s flax is not ideal. ALA is only a fraction of the total omega-3s in the body so most ALA is slowly absorbed and up to 90% is burned as energy. The high oil levels needed with flax are prohibitive. Algae oil is like getting an airlift to the top the mountain. ALA is like climbing the whole mountain, not just a hill. DHA allows for a lower effective dosage, and optimized dosing is the algae oil advantage since DHA is the main omega-3 in people. There are no risks with DHA.
Q: How does Pure One™ compare to high quality Sacha Inchi oil?
A: Sacha Ichi a seed plant. All seed plant omega-3s are mainly ALA, without EPA or DHA.
Q: How would you compare the amount of DHA provided by your product vs Sacha Inchi, Flax oil or walnut oil?
A: Sometimes the wiggle on the numbers is misunderstood, but 30 g flax = 1 g fish oil = 0.8 g algae oil. The bigger problem is with 4x for dosing. 3.2 g algae oil and 4 g fish oil are clinical, but 120 g of flax oil is impossible to consume. Overall about 4-7% ALA goes to EPA (gender, age, diet), about 1% ALA to DHA (gender, age, diet).
