For women who plan to breast feed or use baby food

  • Plant based DHA and EPA from algae oil in PURE ONE has been certified safe for nursing women as a dietary supplement. Daily serving sizes should be discussed with your doctor or OBGYN.
  • WARNING: CAPSULES ARE NOT FOR INFANTS AND CHILDREN UNDER 4 YEARS.

  • PURE ONE CAPSULES MAY BE PIERCED AND SQEEZED INTO BABY FOOD OR DRINK.  ASK ABOUT ORDERING LIQUID OIL

  • SUPPLEMENTATION BY NURSING MOTHERS IS FOR TRANSFER THROUGH BREAST MILK.

A minimum daily intake of 300 mg DHA after birth can provide levels of DHA in the breast milk of approximately 0.35% of total milk fat.  This corresponds to the levels present in infant formula's containing DHA approved by the Food and Drug Administration for new and growing infants.

300 mg DHA is the minimum levels associated with significantly improved brain development in the nursing child, compared to infants given formula lacking DHA.

Adding both DHA and ARA when supplementing infant formulas with long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids supports visual and cognitive development through 39 months, based on study titled; Visual, cognitive, and language assessments at 39 months: a follow-up study of children fed formulas containing long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids to 1 year of age.

*Dr Doughman's Recommendations:

[PURE ONE offers 300 mg DHA + 10 mg EPA per capsule]

  • 3rd trimester:   900-1200 mg/day DHA [3-4 PURE ONE CAPSULES]
  • Year 1 Nursing: 600-1200 mg/day DHA [2-4 PURE ONE CAPSULES]
  • Year 2 Nursing: 300-1200 mg/day DHA [1-4 PURE ONE CAPSULES]

For DHA, Dr Doughman, PhD always recommends 2x to 3x the minimum recommended of 300 mg DHA.  Minimums are the basis and greater benefits are often associated with higher daily DHA levels.*  Always consult with your doctor before starting any supplement program.  Dr. Doughman's recommendations are not intended to replace the professional advice of your own doctor or OBGYN.

DHA-rich algae oil can be considered safer than fish and fish oil for pregnant and nursing mothers for purity and better for DHA levels.
